Hot on the teetering stiletto heels of last month's New York Fashion Week, L.A. Fashion Week blasted off with a show featuring the designs of Louis Verdad. The designer's biggest fans put on a show merely by taking their seats as the audience got close up views of a platoon of celebs including Rachel Leigh Cook, Carmen Electra, Casey Johnson, Paris and Nicky Hilton, Matthew Perry.
Not to be outdone by his celebrity fans, Verdad started the show by shocking the audience with black and white New Wave/fetish-style wear. Gun holster-style black leather bags, skinny patent leather ties, and tight hoods over frizzy mop-like hairdos highlighted the opening of the show.
An intermission featured an androgynous boy in hot shorts and spiked patent leather boots doing wild stunts with a hoola hoop. The crowd went wild.
Verdad's post-intermission offerings featured more retro and lacy designs in a palette of earth tones like beige, heather, brown and cream.
is now officially called The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox
Studios. Former rivals, Mercedez-Benz and Smashbox Studios have combined to bring out the latest creations from designers Kevan Hall, Agent Provocateur, Collection Bebe, Jennifer Nicholson, and many other designers that will be highlighted in 37 shows that run until Friday.
