No Smoking in Beverly Hills
It was a unanimous decision Tuesday night following a late night session by the Beverly Hills City Council to approve an ordinance banning smoking in all outdoor city dining areas including hotels. The decision earned the Council cheers and a standing ovation.
The ban has gone into effect on October 1 with evaluation continuing through December.
The ban contains three provisions. . .
1.
Hotels with pool areas where food and or beverages are served must assign up to 25% of contiguous deck area for smoking.
2.
Smoking is prohibited within five feet of open air dining areas except when passing by en route to another destination.
3.
Exempt are private smokers' lounges including the Grand Havana Club on Canon Drive.

Health Warning on Lipstick/Makeup
Past Their Sell Date
According to researchers, women may be at risk to their health by using old/vintage makeup. They are susceptible to infections from old lipstick, mascara and moisturizer.
Studies show women in their late thirties or forties use some makeup that is over five years old. Beauty experts slap health warning on lipsticks past their sell-by date.
Makeup should come with expiration dates. Mascara has a shelf life of about six months. Foundation and lipstick are also easily absorbed into the skin and should be discarded every three to six months. READ MORE

Neal Halfon, director of the UCLA Center for Healthier Children, Families & Communities, is internationally recognized for his expertise in child health and human development. Halfon is a professor of pediatrics in the School of Medicine, in the Department of Health Services in the School of Public Health, and in the Department of Public Policy in the School of Public Affairs. Physicians are excited about a new brain imaging method that detects Alzheimer's long before its onset. Radioactive dye is injected into the bloodstream and into the brain where it attaches to plaque deposits of amyloid, a protein believed to cause Alzheimer's. The protein is yellow when observed in a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan.

Possible Autism Fighting Enzyme
Researchers at MIT claim to have reversed the symptoms of mental retardation and autism in mice. They accomplish this by inhibiting an enzyme that affects the connections between brain cells.
They claim they can undo brain damage in a condition called Fragile X syndrome by inhibiting the PAK, a chemical in the brain.
This could open up a whole new range of treatments.
Autopsies show restored electrical communication between neurons in the brains of mice receiving PAK.
In the United States one woman will be diagnosed with a gynecological cancer every seven minutes- yet a recent poll found that 47% of women can't name any symptoms of gynecologic cancer.
