Comedy is King (and Queen) at The Paley Center for Media - April 1 – 11 at 3:00pm
Every day was April Fool’s Day on Candid Camera, the original Punk’d, hosted by Allen Funt in which a hidden camera films outrageous practical jokes played on unsuspecting people. Practical jokes are also a part of America’s Funniest Home Videos – now in its 20th season – although that show’s particular emphasis has always been on homegrown accidents, painful pratfalls and stunts gone awry. Laugh along with this side-splitting selection as you watch nearly fifty years of folks all across America , as Allen Funt said best, “being caught in the act of being themselves.”

April 14 – 18 at 3:00pm
Celebrate the birthday of one of the greatest comic minds of the last century--Charlie Chaplin, who would have been 121 on April 16, Take a deep look into the working methods and thought process of the Little Tramp in The Unknown Chaplin, the three-part, Emmy-winning documentary produced by noted chroniclers of the Silent Era, David Gill and Kevin Brownlow.

April 21 – 30 at 3:00pm
Celebrate the birthday of another great comic mind--Carol Burnett, who turns 77 years young on April 26. And for over five decades, Carol Burnett has shared the throne as “Queen of Television Comedy” with Lucille Ball, and our presentations showcasing her deft talents clearly prove why she is an entertainment icon and American institution.

Revisit Twin Peaks - April 8 – 30 at 2:00pm
Twenty years ago on April 8, 1990 television viewers were slack-jawed and spellbound when they first witnessed the supremely surreal and sinister pilot for David Lynch’s Twin Peaks . Relive the mystery of Laura Palmer’s death as we present anniversary screenings of the show that virtually defines the term “cult classic.”

Bell Family Gallery Exhibit

The Black List: Portraits from Volume One, Volume Two and Volume Three - April 4
The Black List Project is an ambitious and illuminating multimedia adventure of the 21st century. Conceived by photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders and journalist Elvis Mitchell, the continuing project offers piercing insights into what it means to be African American in contemporary society. As inspiring as the collective narrative of the black experience is the revelation of the individual character in Greenfield-Sanders and Mitchell’s portraits. For the first time in Los Angeles, this exhibit will feature portraits of fourteen California-based people from the three Volumes - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; Angela Davis; Suzanne dePasse; Laurence Fishburne; Louis Gossett, Jr.; Hill Harper; Beverly Johnson; Suzan-Lori Parks; LaTanya Richardson; Chris Rock; Maya Rudolph; Slash; Keenan Ivory Wayans; and Serena Williams.

The Paley Center for Media, with locations in New York and Los Angeles , leads the discussion about the cultural, creative, and social significance of television, radio, and emerging platforms for the professional community and media-interested public. Drawing upon its curatorial expertise, an international collection, and close relationships with the leaders of the media community, the Paley Center examines the intersections between media and society. The general public can access the collection and participate in programs that explore and celebrate the creativity, the innovations, the personalities, and the leaders who are shaping media. Through the global programs of its Media Council and International Council, the Paley Center also serves as a neutral setting where media professionals can engage in discussion and debate about the evolving media landscape. Previously known as The Museum of Television & Radio, the Paley Center was founded in 1976 by William S. Paley, a pioneering innovator in the industry.
